1672 JOINT RESOLUTIONS.

Further Resolved, That the attention of the War Depart-
ment of the United States is also respectfully directed to this
matter, and it is hereby petitioned to restrict the length of the
extension of nets into said Bay and tributaries, thus, en-
hancing the safety of vessels engaged in commerce in these
waters; and be it

Further Resolved, That a copy of this Resolution be sent to
each of the United States Senators and Congressmen represent-
ing the State of Maryland and to the War Department of the
United States.

No. 2.

Requesting the United States Senators and Representatives in
Congress from the State of Maryland to invite the members
of the United States Senate and the Representatives of the
United States in Congress to visit the City of Baltimore on
the afternoon of Monday, July the 9th, 1916, to participate
in patriotic services by the Grand Lodge of the Benevolent
and Protective Order of Elks of the United States of
America on the historic slope at Fort McHenry a United
States' reservation leased to the State of Maryland, to urge
upon the people of the United States of America the adop-
tion of the Bill now before Congress, proposing to make the
"Star Spangled Banner" the national anthem.

AND WHEREAS, The President of the United States, the
Vice-President and the members of the cabinet will be invited
to join with the Governor, of the State of Maryland, the Mayor
of Baltimore City and the Mayors of all the other Cities in
the State of Maryland, in this invitation to meet the repre-
sentatives of the whole people on this hallowed spot;

AND WHEREAS, Because of the disturbed conditions in
many of the civilized Governments of the world and the un-
rest and trouble prevailing in our sister republic of Mexico to
the South, we believe it would be an opportune time to send a
message to the whole people of the Union calling attention to
the immortal words of Francis Scott Key—

Therefore, Be It Resolved, By the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the Senators and Representatives in Congress
from the State of Maryland are hereby requested to extend
the invitation to the members of the Senate and the House of
Representatives to meet the representatives of every city and
