1384 LAWS OF MARYLAND. [CH. 680

23. The town commissioners of Aberdeen shall in each
year after the passage of this Act make a levy for town pur-
purposes on or before the 30th day of June and shall forth-
with place the tax lists in the hands of the treasurer of said
town for collection.

24. All taxes shall be fairly laid and shall not exceed in
any one year one hundred cents in every one hundred dollars
taxable property in said town, and the taxable basis of said
property for the year 1904 shall be the same as that for county
and State purposes as shown by the tax books of Harford
County, with the addition of such property as may be assessed
by the treasurer hereinafter provided for before the levy of
1904 is closed; and all property within the corporate limits of
said town shall be hereafter exempt from taxation for public
road and bridge purposes, outside of said corporate limits.

25. Town taxes shall be due as soon as they are levied, and
if not paid on or before the first day of September, of the cur-
rent year shall bear interest from said date at the rate of six
per centum per annum; on all taxes paid after the levy and
before the first day of September of the current year a dis-
count shall be allowed at the rate of one-half per cent per
month, and bills shall be furnished any taxpayers upon appli-
cation to the treasurer.

26. The town commissioners of Aberdeen shall, before the
15th day of May, 1906, and every second year thereafter, be-
fore said date, appoint a treasurer from the town of Aberdeen,
who shall hold his office for two years from and after his ap-
pointment, and until his successor has been duly appointed
and qualified, as hereinafter provided, and shall, before he
enters upon the discharge of his duties as such treasurer, exe-
cute and deliver a good and sufficient bond to the said town
of Aberdeen, in the penalty of five thousand dollars, condi-
tioned for the faithful performance of his duties as treasurer,
said bond to be approved by the said town commissioners; and
if at any time a vacancy shall occur in said office the said com-
missioners shall at once make a new appointment for the resi-
due of the term.

27. In case any person appointed as treasurer shall fail
to execute the bond required in the preceding section within a
week after his appointment, the said commissioners shall de-
clare said office vacant and at once proceed to fill the same by
the appointment of a suitable person for the residue of the
term, who shall qualify as aforesaid.
