tions during the pleasure of the Attorney-General and be
subject to his orders, and shall receive salaries not exceed-
ing in the aggregate, three thousand, three hundred dollars
($3, 300). The Chief Clerk shall, subject to the direction
and control of the Attorney-General, and in addition to any
other work assigned to him, have charge and custody of the
office, books and papers of the Department of Law, which
shall be arranged and indexed by him in such convenient and
orderly manner as to be at all times readily accessible. He
shall also keep in said offices a complete docket and dupli-
cate pleadings of all suits, actions and proceedings of which.
the Department of Law has charge, upon which docket such
appropriate entries shall be made as to show at all times,
the condition of each of such cases. He shall also keep on
record, in convenient and accessible form, copies of all writ-
ten opinions furnished by the Department of Law, and also
abstracts of all titles examined by or for the Department.
SEC. 6. And be it further enacted, That the Department
of Law is authorized to establish and maintain offices
and headquarters. All papers and documents relating to
the business of the Department shall be permanently filed in
said offices. The offices shall be equipped, maintained and
supplied at the expense of the State, and the Attorney-General
and his assistants shall be allowed for all traveling and other
expenses connected with the duties of the Department.
SEC. 7. And be it further enacted, That the State Lib-
rarian is authorized and directed to furnish the Depart-
ment of Law, upon the request of the Attorney-General, one
or more sets of the Maryland Reports, and copies of the ad-
ditional reports as issued, one or more sets of the Acts of
the General Assembly of Maryland, and copies of the additional
Acts as issued, and sets of the several Codes containing the
public general and local laws of Maryland, and supplements
thereto as issued, and also from time to time such other law
books, or sets thereof, now or hereafter in the State Library,
as the Attorney-General may desire for his Department, and as,
in the judgment of the State Librarian, are available for that
purpose; the title to all of said books to remain in the State
of Maryland.
SEC. 8. j^nd be it further enacted, That the Attorney-
General shall, on the first day of January, in each year,
make a written report to the Governor of the business and
