1126 LAWS OF MARYLAND. [CH. 549

Acts of 1910, and amended by Chapter 7 of the Acts of 1912,
be and the- same is hereby repealed and re-enacted with amend-
ments so as to read as follows:

Section 160C. And be it further enacted, That the County
Commissioners of Charles County shall at the time of making
the annual levy in said County for the years 1916, 1917, 1918
and 1919 levy upon the taxable property of the said County,
the sum of Twenty Thousand Dollars ($20, 000), and annually
thereafter, levy upon the taxable property of the said County a
sum of money of not less than Thirteen Thousand Dollars nor
more than Twenty Thousand Dollars, for the purpose of pay-
ing for the construction, reconstruction and maintenance of the
roads of the said County; provided, however, that one-half, or
Ten Thousand Dollars, of the sum so levied in the years 1916,
1917, 1918 and 1919, shall be expended by the said Board oi
County Commissioners, in conjunction with the State Aid to
Roads Fund, under the direction of the State Roads Commis-
sion of Maryland, as provided for by Chapter 225, of the Acts
of 1904 and subsequent amendments thereto, for which said
fund said Board shall make application in proper form, in the
construction of a State Aid Road from La Plata to Riverside;
in said Charles County, by way of Port Tobacco, McConchie,
Welcome, Hill Top, Ironsides, Doncaster, Cross Roads, Gray-
ton and Nanjemoy, as the public road now runs, but reserving
to said Board of County Commissioners the right to vary there-
from for the purpose of re-location and saving of grades, pro-
vided the same general course is followed; the said construc-
tion to begin at the end of the State Aid Road running West
through La Plata and so much thereof to be built each year as
the funds above provided for will permit, said construction to
be limited to an average cost not to exceed Four Thousand
Dollars per mile, one-half of which is to be paid by the County
and one-half by the State, and to be built either by contract
or by the County in conjunction with and under the direction
and supervision of the State Roads Commission, in the discre-
tion of the Board of County Commissioners, and within the
limitations as to costs,, as aforesaid, and in the event the State
Roads Commission will not consent to build the said road with-
in the limitation herein provided, then said County Commis-
sioners are empowered and directed to build same as a purely
County road, at an average cost not to exceed Fifteen Hundred
Dollars, per mile, for said entire route; and said County Com-
missioners are hereby authorized and directed, immediately
