use and consumption of water supplied for any purpose, and
may, in their discretion, place meters or other appliances for
the purpose of measuring the water used by consumers, and make
and collect a rate or charge therefor accordingly, and prescribe
rules and regulations, regarding the service and use of such
water, and may, in their discretion, impose a reasonable charge
for the tapping of any sewer or drain, that may be constructed
by said Burgess and Commissioners, and may prescribe rules
and regulations regarding the use of said drains, or sewers.
241U. The Burgess and Commissioners of Hancock are au-
thorized and empowered to provide by ordinance for the pro-
tection of said water works, the pipes, hydrants, fire-plugs, or
other parts thereof, and said drains or sewers, or any part there-
of, and provide penalties for the violation of such ordinance.
241V. All acts done and expenses hitherto incurred by the
Burgess and Commissioners of Hancock in attempting to carry
into effect the provisions of Chapter 33 of the Acts of the Gen-
eral Assembly of Maryland, passed at its January Session of
the year 1910, are hereby made valid and legal.
241W. The Burgess and Commissioners of Hancock are au-
thorized to levy taxes not exceeding fifty cents on the one hun-
dred dollars upon the assessable property in the town of Han-
cock, to pay any costs and expenses incident to the exercise of
the powers or any of them, herein granted.
241X. The Burgess and Commissioners of Hancock are au-
thorized and empowered to borrow a sum of money not exceed-
ing Thirty Thousand Dollars, on the faith and credit of the
town as hereinafter provided, which shall be known as the Water
and Sewer Fund, and which shall be used exclusively for the
location, designing and constructing of a water works, or system
of water works, and the acquisition of property, real or per-
sonal, therefor, for the purposes set forth in this Act, and the
location, designing and construction of sewers, a sewerage sys-
tem, sanitary sewers, a system of sanitary sewerage, drains or
a drainage system, and the acquisition of property, real or per-
sonal, therefor, for the purposes set forth in this Act, said sum
of money, or as much thereof as may be necessary, to be appro-
priated and apportioned by the Burgess and Commissioners of
Hancock, in such portions and amounts for each of said purposes
as said Burgess and Commissioners of Hancock may in their
discretion determine.
