district of the County when they deem it best so to do, except
in the case of a school, the yearly average of which is twelve
pupils or more, the Board of County School Commissioners shall
obtain the consent of sixty per cent, of its patrons, and shall
perform such other duties as may be necessary to secure an
efficient administration of the public school system, subject to
the provisions of this Article.
43. In every school house district in each County, established
as hereinbefore provided there shall be kept for ten months in
each year if possible, one or more schools, according to popula-
tion which shall be free to all white youths over six and under
twenty-one years of age, provided the Board of County School
Commissioners in each County may close all schools in any
school district when they deem it best so to do, except such
schools as are exempt from consolidation and closing under Sec-
tion 25.
SEC. 2. And be it enactcd, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 481.
AN ACT authorizing and directing the Police Commissioners of
Baltimore City to pay to Mr. George W. Bowers, a former
Policeman of Baltimore City Police Force, a pension of ten,
dollars per week.

CHAPTER 482.
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section 12 of
Article 52 of the Annotated Code of the Public Civic Laws of
Maryland, entitled "Justices of the Peace," sub-title "Crimi-
nal Jurisdiction."
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 12 of Article 52 of the Annotated Code of
the Public Civil Laws of Maryland, entitled "Justices of the
Peace," sub-title "Criminal Jurisdiction," be and the same ia
hereby repealed and re-enacted with amendments so as to read
as follows:
