to. He shall receive such compensation as the Mayor and Coun-
cil may determine, not exceeding Twenty-five Dollars per annum.

SECTION 184A 17. The Treasurer shall, before he enters upon
his duties, take the same oath as that prescribed for members,
of the Council and shall execute a bond, conditioned for the
faithful performance of the duties of his office, made payable to
the Mayor and Council of Midland, in such an amount, in such
form and with such sureties as the Mayor and Council may pre-
scribe. He shall have the custody of all corporation funds and
shall pay the same put only upon orders of the Council, signed
by the Mayor and countersigned by the Clerk.

SECTION 184A 18. The Bailiff and all assistant Bailiffs or
Policemen appointed by the Mayor and Council, before entering
upon their duties, shall make oath before the Mayor or some
Justice of the Peace in Allegany County, that they will dili-
gently and faithfully perform the duties of their office, and shall
execute bonds payable to the Mayor and Council of Midland,
with such conditions, in such form, for such an amount, and
with such sureties as the Mayor and Council may prescribe.
The Bailiff, and such assistant Bailiffs or Policemen as may-
be appointed, shall perform the police duties of the town and
when appointed they are hereby clothed with the powers of a
constable under the General Laws of Maryland, within the cor-
porate limits of the town of Midland. They shall be sublet to
the order of the Mayor and Council and shall be appointed by
the Mayor and Council for such a term and at such a salary as
the Mayor and Council may determine, and may be removed from
office by the Mayor and Council at any time.

SECTION 184A 19. All Justices of the Peace, of the State of
Maryland, in and for Allegany County, having jurisdiction
within the corporate limits of the town of Midland, or any
part thereof, shall be Police Magistrates of said town, before
any one of whom shall be taken all persons charged with violat-
ing the charter or any of the ordinances of the said town, and
before whom all fines, penalties and forfeitures imposed by this
Act, or any ordinance of the Mayor and Council of Midland made
in pursuance thereof, may be recovered in the name of the
Mayor and Council of Midland; and the said Justices of the
Peace are hereby given authority and jurisdiction to act in
accordance with the provisions of this Section,

SECTION 184A 20. The Mayor and Council shall have full
power and authority to grade, curb and pave or to cause to be
