after furnish the inhabitants of Brooklyn an adequate supply
of water through and by means of the mains and distribution
system by said order directed to be installed; and
WHEREAS, Said Brooklyn and Curtis Bay Light and Water
Company thereupon applied to the Circuit Court of Baltimore
City for an order to vacate and set aside said order of the;
Public Service Commission of April 30th, 1912, on the grounds
that the same was unlawful and unreasonable, with the ultimate
result that on February 25th, 1914, the Court of Appeals of
Maryland finally vacated and set aside said order on the ground
that it was unreasonable, in that said service would have to be
rendered by said Company at a loss and it had no pecuniary
means to make the extension so directed to be made by said
order of the Public Service Commission of April 30th, 1912; and.
WHEREAS, The inhabitants of Brooklyn are in dire need of an
adequate supply of water for domestic and commercial use and
for fire protection, and it is represented that the continued exist-
ence of the franchises and charter rights of the said Brooklyn:
and Curtis Bay Light and Water Company tend to prevent,
other investors entering said field and supplying said town with
water; therefore,
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Brooklyn and Curtis Bay Light and Water Com-
pany shall, on or before the 1st day of November, 1914, cause to
be installed to, into and throughout the town of Brooklyn in
Anne Arundel County the water mains and pipes prescribed by
the order of the Public Service. Commission passed on the 30th
day of April, 1912, in the matter of the Complaint of the Brook-
lyn Improvement Association against the Brooklyn and Curtis;
Bay Light and Water Company, and thereafter furnish to the
citizens of said town of Brooklyn in Anne Arundel County an
adequate supply of water through and by means of the mains
and distribution system so directed to be installed; and in case
the said Brooklyn and Curtis Bay Light and Water Company
shall not, on or before said 1st day of November, 1914, cause to
be completed the installation of pipes and mains prescribed by
said order, then, from and after said 1st day of November, 1914,
said charter rights and franchises of said Brooklyn and Curtis
Bay Light and Water Company, its successors and assigns, ever
thereafter to install or maintain gas or water pipes or furnish
gas or water in said village of Brooklyn or its vicinity, or to
use the streets, roads or highways thereof for either of such
purposes, shall forever cease and be determined whether said
