AN ACT to repeal section eight hundred and sev-
enty-nine of Article four of the Code of Public
Local Laws, relating to the city of Baltimore
and to insert in lieu thereof a section to provide
that certain duties which are by sections eight
hundred and seventy-four, eight hundred and
seventy-five, eight hundred and seventy six
eight hundred and seventy-seven and eight hun-
dred and seventy-eight of said Article, imposed
on the Auditors, may be exercised by the Col-
lector of Taxes in the city of Baltimore.

Repealed.

SECTION 1 . Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That section eight hundred and sev-
enty nine of Article four of the Code of Public Lo-
cal Laws relating to the city of Baltimore be and
the same is hereby repealed, and that the follow-
ing section be and the same is hereby inserted in
said Code in lieu thereof :

Power of the
Mayor and
City Council
to abolish the
office of Audi-
tor.

879. Nothing herein shall deprive the Mayor
and City Council of Baltimore of the power to
abolish the office of Auditor, and in such event the
duties which are confided to the Auditor by sec-
tions eight hundred and seventy-four, eight hun-
dred and seventy-five, eight hundred and seventy-
six, eight hundred and seventy-seven and eight
hundred and seventy-eight of this Article, shall
be discharged by the Collector, or other officer on
whom they shall or may be conferred by ordinance
of the Mayor and City Council, and on all arrearages
of back taxes collected and paid over to the Trea-
surer the said Auditor or other officer charged with
the collection thereof, shall be allowed a commis-
sion of two and a half per cent, as a compensation
for collecting the same.
