LAWS OF MARYLAND.

of the said county, the proceeds whereof shall be
appropriated to defray the liabilities incurred by
the said County Commissioners in carrying out
the objects of the afofesaid levy, and the said ad-
ditional tax shall be. coileoted at the same time
and in like manner with the tax to be levied to
defray the ordinary expenses of the said county
for the year eighteen hundred and sixty-four.

Conditions.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That if any person
liable to be taxed under the provisions of this act,
shall have paid his proportion of the tax levied by
the Commissioners of said county, as recited in
the preamble to this act, he shall be entitled to re-
tain the amount of his said payment of the tax
with which he may be assessed under the provi-
sions of this act, and if he shall have transferred
the property assessed to him, and for which he
shall have made payment of the said tax as afore-
said, the person to whom the gaid transfer. shall
have been made, shall be entitled to the benefit of
the discount aforesaid, to the extent of the tax so
assessed against the said property, and paid as
aforesaid.

Claims for
allowances.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That the said Com-
missioners shall be and they are hereby authorized
and empowered, at their meeting to be held for
the purpose of making the levy to defray the ex-
penses for the said county for the year eighteen
hundred and sixty-four, or at some other meeting
to be held specially for the purpose, to determine
upon all claims which shall or may be made for
discounts or allowances under the provisions of
the last preceding section.

Proceedings
made valid.

Sec. 4. And be it enacted, That the proceedings
of the Commissioners in levying and collecting the
tax imposed by them as aforesaid, and the engage-
ments entered into by them in consequence there-
of, be and the same are hereby made and declared
to be valid and operative, and that all further pro-
ceedings for the purpose of collecting the said
tax, be and the same are hereby suspended.

Sec. 5. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from the day of the passage thereof
