such Inspector. The Chief Clerks of the respec-
tive Tobacco Warehouses, shall receive each,
twelve hundred dollars per annum, the Receiving
and Shipping Clerk, shall receive each nine hun-
dred dollars per annum, the Weighing Clerks
shall receive each nine hundred dollars per an-
num, the Screwmen two dollars per day, and the
Laborers of Back Gang one dollar and fifty cents
per day, all of which shall be paid by the Inspec-
tors from the receipts into their respective offices.
The Injectors shall at no time employ more la-
bor than is necessary for the effective perform-
ance of the work to be done, and in his quarterly
returns to the Comptroller of the State, each in-
spector shall state the average number of Screw-
men and Laborers, employed in his warehouse,
during said quarter, and amount of compensation
paid them, and the several Clerks in his employ-
ment.

Control of
wharf.
|
Sec. 6. Be it enacted, That each Tobacco In-
spector shall have charge and control of the 'wharf
in front of the warehouse to which he may have
been appointed, as far as is necessary to facilitate
the landing of tobacco, thereat, or the removal of
tobacco therefrom, and any master or owner of
any vessel in front of such warehouse, not having
any tobacco on board, who shall refuse or neglect
to remove his vessel, upon the request of such
Tobacco Inspector or his Clerk, in order that a
vessel having tobacco on board may land the same,
or that a scow or vessel may receive tobacco,
therefrom, shall pay a fine of not less than five,
nor more than twenty dollars, to be recovered be-
fore any Justice of the Peace of the City of Balti-
more, for the use of Tobacco fund.

Ten hours
per day.

Sec. 7. Be it enacted, That each of said Tobac-
co Inspectors and persons' employed by him as
aforesaid, shall, unless prevented by sickness or
unavoidable accident, occupy ten hours every day,
except Sundays and Hollidays, in the actual and
personal discharge of his particular duties, under
this act.
