CHAPTER 37.

AN ACT to add a new section to Article eighty-
one of the Code of Public General Laws, ex-
empting Parsonages from taxes.
|

SECTION 1 . Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That all the grounds and premises,
together with the buildings thereon, libraries, fur-
niture and chattels belonging to any religious de-
nomination, and used by them for the accommoda-
tion of their ministers or pastors, and known as
|

from tax.
|
parsonages, shall be exempt from all manner of
taxation for State or local purposes; provided , the
whole value thereof shall not exceed five thousand
dollars, and that ali property over that amount
shall be liable to assessment and tax.
|
Proviso.
|
Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect for the year eighteen hundred and
sixty-four.

CHAPTER 38.

AN ACT to add the fallowing section to Article
thirty of the Code of Public General Laws enti-
tled, "Crimes and punishments," defined the
offence of being a common thief or pickpocket.
