Sec. 8. And be it enacted. That this corporation
shall not be permitted to issue any note, token or
device, or other evidence of debt, to be used as cur-
rency.

In force.

Sec. 9. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from and after its passage.

 

CHAPTER 109.

2, 1884.

AN ACT to amend the thirty-seventh Article of
the Public General Laws by repealing the first,
second, third, fourth and fifth sections of said
Article, relating to the competency of witnesses,
and inserting in said Article, in lieu of the sec-
tions so repealed, the following sections, relating
to the competency of witnesses and the examina-
tion of parties.

Repealed.

SECTION 1 . Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the first, second, third, fourth
and fifth sections of the thirty-seventh Article of
the Public General Laws, relating to the compe-
tency of witnesses, be and the same are hereby re-
pealed, and that the following sections be inserted
in said Article as a substitute for and in lieu of the
said sections so repealed:

Section 1...No person offered as a witness shall
hereafter be excluded by reason of incapacity from
crime or interest, from giving evidence, either in
person or by deposition, according to the practice
of the courts, in the trial of any issue joined or
hereafter to be joined, or of any matter or ques-
tion, or en any inquiry arising, in any suit, action
or proceeding, civil or criminal, in any court, or
before any Judge, Jury, Justice of Peace or other
person having, bylaw or by consent of parties,
