Laws, be amended and re-enacted so as to read as
follows :

811. The pay of an ordinary Policeman shall
be eighteen dollars a weeki, payable semi-monthly,
and in case the Board shall appoint Detective
Policemen, whieh they may to the number of five,
the Detectives shall receive the sum of twenty
dollars a week payable semi-monthly; said Detec-
tives shall not be allowed to follow any other
business, but shall devote their whole time to
their duties as Detectives.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted. That section eight
hundred and twelve of Article four of the Code of
Public Local Laws be amended and re-enacted so
as to read as follows :

812. The officers of the police shall be paid
semi-monthly, and their pay shall be as follows :
The Marshal shall receive eighteen hundred dol-
lars a year; the Deputy Marshal shall receive
thirteen hundred a year ; each Captain twenty-two
dollars a Week ; each Lieutenant twenty dollars a
week each Sergeant nineteen dollars a week; and
each Turnkey fourteen dollars a week.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted. That the pay herein
provided for the Policemen and Officers of polict
aforesaid, shall continue only until the first day
ef April eighteen hundred and sixty-seven, and
that from and after said day the pay of said
Policemen and Detective Policemen and Officers
of police, shall be the same as now provided by
law.

take effect from the date of its passage.
