WILLARD WALLACE ALLEN
Grand Master of the State of
Maryland
Born May S, 1888, in Buckingham,
Virginia. The son of George and
Elizabeth Alien.
Educated in Buckingham County
High School, Virginia, and La Salle
Institute, Chicago, Illinois.
In 1922, Mr. Alien was appointed
by Mayor Broening to the Zoning
Commission—1927-30; served on the
Baltimore and Federal Grand Jury.
In 1925 he became the President of
the Southern Life Insurance Company
and is now serving his twelfth year
in that capacity.
Mr. Alien has been the Grand Mas-
ter of the State of Maryland since
1922 and is the Most Puissant Sov-
ereign Grand Commander of the
United Supreme Council, Ancient and
Accepted Scottish Kite of Free-
masonry, Southern Jurisdiction.
He has varied interests. His .altru-
istic spirit finds some expression in
his activities as a member of the As-
sociation for the Handicapped, Inc.,
and as a member of the Board of
Managers of the House of Reforma-
tion for Colored Boys at Cheltenham,
Maryland. Mr. Alien is also an
active member of the Republican
Party. In 1934 Mr. Alien was a
delegate to the State Republican Con-
vention. He seconded the nomination
to Senator France. He also served as
a member of the Unemployment Com-
mission under Mayor William F.
Broening. He is considered one of
the best platform speakers of the
country and enjoys the confidence of

all the citizens of Baltimore and the
State of Maryland.
At the opening' session of the Balti-
more Annual Conference of the A. M.
E. Church which met in Baltimore,
Maryland, on April 28, 19:17, Mr. Al-
ien had the distinction of represent-
ing both Governor Harry W. Nice,
Governor of the State of Maryland
(Republican) and Mayor Howard W.
Jackson, Mayor of Baltimore City
(Democrat).

Mrs. Bertha Walker Proctor, Chair-
man of the Save a Sight Campaign of
the Association for the Handicapped
of Baltimore, May 16, to May 26, 1937.
Mrs. Proctor is well known as a
leader in church and civic groups and
s former school teacher in the Balti-
more system. One-time member of the
Committee of Management of the Y.
W. C. A., President of the Ladies'
Auxiliary of Morgan College, teacher
of Ladies' Bible Class in Bethel A.
M. E. Church Sunday School. Re-
cently elected a member of the Ex-
ecutive Board of the Urban League.
A devoted wife and mother. Wife of
Mr. William Proctor, principal of one
of the local schools, mother of Wil-
liam, Jr., and Nathaniel Proctor.
