REV. CHARLES E. STEWART.

COSMOPOLITAN CHORAL SOCIETY.

The Cosmopolitan Choral Society, the outgrowth of the work of
Mme. E. Azalia Hackley for the Y. M. C. A., March, 1917, was or-
ganized after the Community Song Festival with a membership cf
127 persons. The object of the society is to study folk-songs, and
Choral work generally, and to foster a love for singing.

Since being organized two concerts have been given. Mr. Harry
Burleigh, accompanied by Mr. Melville Charlton, was presented to
Baltimore's public June, 1917.

Mr. Roland Hays and Miss Lillian Evans were the soloists at a
second concert, December, 1917, their accompanist being Miss Bea-
trice Lewis.

March 19, 1918, a visit was made to Camp Meade, which was a
most enjoyable trip for the members. The "boys" of the Camp
expressed themselves as pleased with our work of entertainment,
which was absolutely gratuitous.

Dr. Charles E. Stewart, the director, was teacher at Greensboro,
N. C., A. and T. College and also at Wilberforce University, where
he taught piano and vocal lessons for several years. Besides ex-
perience and skill, Dr. Stewart brings to his work love and devotion
to the social life of the community, and his services to the organiza-
tion are freely given.

The officers of the society are:

Dr. Chas. E. Stewart, Director.

Miss Clara M. Thompson, Secretary.

Miss Camilla Gwathney, Assistant Secretary.

Mrs. Cora T. Jones, Mrs. Annie Nichols, Accompanists.

Mr. Mason A. Hawkins, Treasurer.

MEMBERS.

Mrs. Emma Ball, 702 Gold St.
Miss Mary Beale, 527 Robert St.
Mrs. Elizabeth Bens, 1207 Argyle Ave.
Mrs. Ruby Blackwell, 424 Mosher St.
