DEAR SIR—

In reply to your request for matter for publication in your Direc-
tory, I am sending the following matter:

This school is devoted to the preparation of teachers for the public
schools of Baltimore City. Since its establishment in 1900, it has pre-
pared nearly 400 teachers for the public schools of Baltimore.

The course is two years in length, and is based upon an approved
High School Course of four years.

The required subjects include Psychology, History of Education,
Theory of Teaching and the special methods appropriate to instruction
in Mathematics, History, Geography, Nature Study, Language and
Grammar, Reading, Literature, Hygiene, Manual Training, Physical
Training and Drawing.

One-fourth of the course, one-half year, is devoted to practice teach-
ing under criticism. During this time the pupil teacher receives com-
pensation at the rate of one dollar per day.

The Board of Public School Commissioners awards a diploma to
those students who complete the course in a satisfactory manner.

Graduates of this school are exempt from the academic examination
prescribed by the Department of Education for untrained candidates.
All candidates for positions in the elementary schools of Baltimore
must take the professional examination in the first ten of the subjects
named above.

Tuition is free to residents of Baltimore. Other students are re-
quired to pay an annual tuition fee of about $42.00. No charge is
made for books or other material required in the course.
