SKETCH OF MORGAN COLLEGE, BALTIMORE.

Morgan College was chartered originally in 1867. Some Instruction
was given, using Church and Sunday School rooms for five years. In
1872 the school was formally opened at Nn. 44 West Saratoga Street.
Baltimore, under the name of the Centenary Biblical Institute.

The work at first was elementary with Bible training for those pre-
paring for the ministry. In 1860 the school was moved to Its present
location, corner of Fulton and Edmondson Avenues, .ind toe course of

study broadened, especially to Include normal Instruction for both men
and women

In 1880 the coarse of study was still further broadened, the faculty
Increased and the College given its present name, Morgan College, after
Rev. Lyttleton F Morgan. D.D.

In 1880 Princess Anne Academy was opened as a branch school on
the Eastern Shore of Maryland, and a little later became the official
Eastern Branch of the Maryland Agricultural College, caring for the

agricultural and Industrial work among the Negroes of Maryland.

In 1802 the Virginia Collegiate and Industrial Institute was estab-
lished at Lynchburg, Va.

At the present time, December, 1916, the school has entirely outgrown
its present quarters, and there is an argent demnnd for larger and
better facilities, especially some adequate facilities for training rural
school teachers.
