PRINCIPAL MASON A. HAWKINS.
Principal Mason A. Hawkins entered the Baltimore Pub-
lic School System as teacher of Latin and other subjects,
with the first colored faculty of the local high school, under
Principal Hugh M. Browne. September, 1901. He obtained
his early education in the elementary schools of Baltimore,
and subsequently completed the preparatory course, and the
freshman year at Morgan College, Baltimore. After four
years of study at Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass., he
graduated from that institution, in 1901, with the Degree of
A. B., and received the Master's Degree from Columbia Uni-
versity, October, 1910. Mr. Hawkins has held the position
of Head of Department of Foreign Languages for many
years. and for a time was Vice-Principal of the school. Since
November, 1909, he has been Principal of our local High
School.
