in addition to his salary; and that all general or local laws
inconsistent with the provisions of this Act be and the same
are hereby repealed.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of the
Sheriff to collect and pay over the County Commissioners
quarterly any appearance or other fee, taxed as part of the
costs payable to the State's Attorney, in any criminal case.
SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
and said salary shall begin on January 1, 1912.

CHAPTER 484.
AN ACT to add twenty-one new sections to Article 16, Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland, title "Montgomery County,"
sub-title "Roads," to follow after Section 177E, and to be
numbered 177F, 177G, 177H, 177i, 177 j, 177K, 177L, 177M,
177N, 177o, 177p, 177Q, 177R, 177s, 177T, 177u, 177v, 177w,
177x, 177y and 177z, providing additional powers and duties
for the County Commissioners of Montgomery County; the
method of keeping certain records; the admission of records
as evidence; a system of construction, care and repair of
public highways, bridges, avenues, streets, lanes and alleys,
and the control, naming, surveying, marking, mapping and
recording the same; the adoption of rules and regulations
for the use of public ways by telegraph and telephone com-
panies, steam railroad and electric railway companies, gas,
water and electric light companies, and similar uses thereof,
and for imposing and enforcing penalties for the violation of
such rules and regulations; for the purchase of materials,
machinery, implements and equipment, and the employment
of additional' agencies for road and bridge work; including a
County Road Superintendent; for the improvement of pub-
lic ways by private aid; the acceptance of road dedications;
declarations of certain public highways from previous pub-
lic use; opening, altering, closing and draining public ways;
for railroad and other crossings; method of condemnation
and appeal; assessment of damages and benefits; service of
notice in certain cases and for the construction of sewers by
local assessment in certain drainage areas.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That twenty-one new sections be and the same are hereby
added to Article 16 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Mary-
land, title "Montgomery County," sub-title "Roads," to follow
