918 LAWS OF MARYLAND.

and election of a Water Board for conducting, carrying on
and maintaining same, and to issue bonds to pay therefor,
and to levy an annual tax for the payment of such bonds and
interest thereon; and to re-enact Sections 7, 8 and 9 with
amendments and to add four new sections thereto, to be
designated as Sections 10, 11, 12 and 13.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Sections 4, 7, 8 and 9 of Chapter 289 of the Acts of
the General Assembly of Maryland,' passed at the January
Session of 1908, be and the same are hereby repealed, and to
re-enact Sections 7, 8 and 9 with amendments, and to add four
new sections thereto, to be designated as Sections 10, 11, 12
and 13, to read as follows:

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That after the purchase of the
property of the Chestertown Water Company by the Commis-
sioners, the said Commissioners of Chestertown shall appoint
a Water Board, consisting of three persons, each of whom shall
have the same qualifications as those required of a Commis-
sioner of Chestertown, who shall hold office until the fourth
Monday in April, 1909, at which time the duly qualified voters
of Chestertown, entitled to vote for the Commissioners thereof,
shall be entitled to vote for a Water Board, which shall consist
of three persons, with the qualification above named, and who
shall hold office for three years, and which said Water Board
shall, in like manner, be elected at the expiration of each three
years thereafter, at the regular election of a Commissioner of
Chestertown, and who shall qualify in the same manner as do
the Commissioners of Chestertown, and said Water Board shall
hold public meetings in January and July of each year; and
shall continue in office until their successors are duly elected
and qualified. Any vacancy in said Water Board created by
death, resignation or otherwise, shall be filled for the unexpired
term by the Commissioners of Chestertown.

SEC. 8. And be it enacted, That the said Water Board shall
have charge of the said waterworks so purchased and shall
operate same, with authority to employ and pay such superin-
tendent, engineers, workmen, laborers and employees as may
be necessary to carry on and maintain the same and supply
said town and the inhabitants thereof with water, and shall
have authority to purchase material and supplies necessary to
operate same, and to make repairs and additions thereto as
necessity may require for fire protection and domestic use; and
to fix, charge and collect water rates or water rents for the use
of said water, and to adopt and provide rules and regulations
therefor, and for the proper protection of said waterworks
