904 LAWS OF MARYLAND.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Chapter 121 of the Acts of 1900, entitled "An Act
to provide for the selecting, drawing and summoning of jurors
for Howard County," be and the same is hereby repealed and
re-enacted with amendments, so as to read as follows:
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That in Howard County there
shall be procured by the Clerk of the Circuit Court a jury box
of convenient size, which shall be divided into as many com-
partments as there may, from time to time, be election districts
in said county, and which compartments shall be numbered
to correspond with the districts of the county; that when the
names of the persons selected by the Judges of the Circuit
Court for said county, or either of them, in the manner pre-
scribed in Article 51 of the Code of Public General Laws, title
"Juries," immediately thereupon the Judge or Judges of said
Court, in the presence of the members of the bar and such
other persons as may attend, of the said names so selected,
shall select and appoint one, who shall be foreman of the Grand
Jury, and shall cause all the names selected, except the name
of the foreman, to be placed by said Judge, or either of them,
in said compartments of said box, respectively, which bear
the numbers of the districts where the persons so selected
respectively reside; and it shall be the duty of said Judges,
or either of them, when selecting the panel of one hundred
and fifty persons, as provided for in section seven of Article
51 of the Code of Public General Laws, to distribute the
names of the persons on said panel as nearly equal as may be
possible among said compartments, and the said Judge or
Judges, in addition to the foreman so selected, shall draw in all
forty-seven names, and from all the said compartments an
equal number of names; provided, that after the foreman
has been selected the district of his residence shall be carefully
noted, and at said drawing one less name shall be drawn from
the compartment representing the district in which he resides;
and if the foreman so selected should die, or for any other
cause be excused by the Court, the Judge or Judges, after
drawing another name from the compartment representing
the district in which the foreman originally selected and so
dead or excused resided, may select and appoint any one of the
jurors drawn as foreman in place of the foreman so dead or
excused.
SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That all that portion of Article
51 of the Code of Public General Laws of the State of Maryland
inconsistent herewith be and the same is hereby repealed as
far as the same may apply to Howard County.
