any municipal election held in said city; said registration shall
in all other respects conform to Article 33 of the Code of Public
General, Laws of Maryland, title "Elections."
54. The Mayor of Ellicott City shall, before the 1st day of
March previous to such election, appoint three proper and com-
petent persons, resident voters of Ellicott City, judges of elec-
tion, who shall hold said office for the period of four years from
said appointment, and until their successors are duly appointed
and qualified, and said judges of election shall have full power
to appoint one or more clerks, if necessary, who shall keep a
record of the persons voting and the persons voted for, and said
judges of election, immediately upon the closing of the polls for
said election, shall proceed to count the ballots cast and ascer-
tain the result of said election, and the person receiving the
greatest number of votes cast for Mayor shall be declared
elected Mayor of Ellicott City, and the six persons receiving
the greatest number of votes cast for members of the City
Council shall be declared elected members of the City Council
of Ellicott City. And the Mayor and City Council so elected
shall severally hold their respective offices for the space and
term of four years from the date of their qualification and
until their successors are duly elected and qualified.
55. The election for Mayor and six members of the City Coun-
cil shall be held at such place in said city as may be desig-
nated by said Mayor on the hand-bills as hereinbefore specified,
on the first Tuesday after the first Monday of April, 1911, and
every fourth year thereafter, between the hours of 12 o'clock
noon and 7 o'clock P. M., such designation by said Mayor shall
be by hand-bills posted in at least five public places within the
corporate limits of Ellicott City as now existing, at least two
weeks before said election.
56. Said judges of election shall take and subscribe to the
oaths of office within twenty days after their respective appoint-
ments as aforesaid, before any Justice of the Peace for Howard
County, which justice shall receive as compensation for taking
said oath the amount now allowed by law for the taking of
oaths before Justices of the Peace. In case of vacancy or
vacancies among the judges of election mentioned as aforesaid,
by death or otherwise, after said 1st day of March, in such
years as aforesaid mentioned, said vacancy or vacancies shall
at any time thereafter be filled by appointment by the Mayor.
56B. The duties of the judges of election as heretofore named
flhall.be the same as the duties of the corresponding officers of
elections for members of the General Assembly of Maryland,
except as provided by this Act, and the said election shall be
conducted by open ballot or tickets printed for that purpose,
