510 LAWS OF MARYLAND.

legany County, and Sections three, four and seven of Chapter
425 of the Acts of 1892, being amendments of section of like
number of Chapter 132 of the Acts of 1890, be and the same
are hereby repealed, and re-enacted with amendments as fol-
lows :

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the clerk shall receive
nominations for any elective officer of said corporation of
Lonaconing at any time not less than ten days preceding the
date of election; said nominations shall be in the form of a
petition, signed by not less than two per cent, of the voters
registered at the election next immediately preceding; and
should there be no nominations so filed before the clerk for any
elective office, then the time allowed for filing applications for
such office shall be extended until four days prior to the date
of the election aforesaid; and the clerk shall thereupon pre-
pare the ballot in form similar to the ballot used in election of
the General Assembly. The names of candidates for every
office shall be arranged alphabetically, according to their sur-
name, under the designation of the office. Above the name of
the candidatas for each office upon a separate line immediately
underneath the designation of the office there shall be printed
an appropriate direction to the voter., informing him of the
number of persons for whom he may lawfully vote for the par-
ticular office mentioned immediately above each said direction,
thus "vote for one" or "vote for three," as the case may be.
Ballots shall be so printed as to give each voter a clear oppor-
tunity to designation by a (X), in a square at right of the
name of each candidate, his choice of candidate. After each
group of names of candidates for each office arranged as before
provided shall bo placed blank lines with squares, uniform in
size with the squares opposite the printed names of candidates
equal in number to the number of persons to be elected to the
particular office there above designated; so that any voter
may indicate in writing on the said ballot the name of any
person other than that already printed for whom he may de-
sire to vote for any office. And the clerk shall forthwith cause
said ballots to be printed and delivered to the judges of elec-
tion, and copies of the same shall be printed upon colored pa-
per, different from the paper used for the regular ballot, but
identical in form, and publicly posted and distributed by the
clerk not less than two days before the said date of election,
for the information of the voters. All necesary nominating
and election expenses shall be paid by the Mayor and Council-
men of Lonaconing.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the male citizens of the
age of twenty-one years and upwards who have resided within
