they be found incorrect, to at once make a report in writing of
the same to the Commissioner of Finance and Revenue. It
shall also be his duty to examine all accounts against said city,
after appropriation has been duly made to pay the same by the
Mayor and City Council, and he shall render such services from
time to time as the said Mayor and City Council shall direct.
He shall give bond for the faithful performance of his duty in
the sum of five thousand dollars ($5,000), with two or more
good and sufficient sureties, to be approved by the Mayor and
by the Commissioner of Finance and Revenue.

HEALTH OFFICER.

SEC. 115p. The Health Officer shall be the secretary to the
Board of Health. He shall be charged with the duty of enforc-
ing all quarantine regulations and of keeping the streets, alleys
and sidewalks of said city, and all premises therein in a sani-
tary condition, and he shall be authorized to enter all houses
and other places, public or private, at all reasonable times, in
the discharge of his duties, for improving and maintaining the
sanitation of said city and the prevention and suppression of
diseases, and shall have the power to abate or cause to be
abated, all nuisances which may endanger or affect the health
or comfort of the people of said city, and generally to do all
acts and make all regulations that may be necessary or expe-
dient for the promotion of health or the suppression of disease,
and perform such other duties as the Mayor and City Council
may prescribe. The Board of Health shall consist of the Mayor,
City Engineer and a reputable practicing physician, who shall
be recommended by the Cumberland Academy of Medicine and
confirmed by the Mayor and City Council, the said physician,
so appointed, shall serve in such office without remuneration or
pay.

The said board, so constituted, shall select a secretary, who
shall be a bacteriologist, and shall devote his entire time to the
duties of his office, provided that should the State and county
co-operate in appointing such an officer, the Mayor and City
Council may arrange for such co-operation.

ENGINEER;

The Engineer of said city shall be a professional civil en-
gineer, and it shall be his duty to ascertain the established
monuments of said city, and from them to extend surveys there-
of, and establish others, and to locate, establish and survey all
streets and alleys within the territorial limits of said city
when so called on or required to do so. He shall maintain
the grade of all streets and alleys in said city and exercise gen-
