CHAPTER 238.
AN ACT to establish a State Conservation Bureau and to make
an appropriation therefor.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That there is hereby established a State Conservation
Bureau, which shall be under the direction of a Commission
of three members, who shall be appointed by the Governor.
They shall serve without compensation, but shall be reim-
bursed for actual expenses incurred in the performance of their
official duties. The Commission shall secure such assistance
as may be necessary and shall have full power in carrying out
the object of this Act.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the Bureau shall have for
its objects (1) a study of such problems connected with the
utilization and -conservation of the natural resources of the
State as in the opinion of the Commission seems wise, or as
the General Assembly may direct; (2) the co-operation with
other State Bureaus in such manner as the Commission may
think best; (3) the co-operation with the Federal Government
or with national organizations in the carying out of plans
for the conservation of the State's resources; (4) the prepara-
tion of such publications from time to time as the Commission
may deem to be for the best interests of the State.
SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the Commission shall present
a report to the General Assembly before each meeting of the
same, showing the progress and condition of the Bureau,
together with such other information as they may deem neces-
sary and helpful, or as the General Assembly may require.
SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That there is hereby appropriated
the sum of twenty-five hundred dollars ($2,500) annually for
the fiscal years 1911 and 1912 for the carrying out of the
provisions of this Act.
SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.
Approved, this 13th day of April, 1910, with the exception of
the provision or item contained in Section 4 of the above Act,
namely, "there is hereby appropriated the sum of fifteen hun-
dred dollars annually for the fiscal years 1911 and 1912 for
the carrying out of the provisions of this Act;" which said
item or provision is approved with respect to the appropriation
of one thousand dollars, or so much thereof as may be neces-
sary, for the fiscal year 1911, and disapproved with respect to
|500 for said fiscal year 1911, and is further disapproved with
respect to the said appropriation of f 1,500 for the fiscal year
1912.
