SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect on
the first day of January, 1911.

CHAPTER 738.
AN ACT to add two new 'sections to Article 97 of the Code
of Public General Laws, title "Weights and Measures," sub-
title "Agricultural Products," to be designated as Sections 35
and 36, to provide for the weighing of certain agricultural
products, and to appropriate a sum of money for the purpose
of carrying into effect this Act.
Whereas, The farmers who have been shipping tomatoes and
other vegetables sold by weight to Baltimore city, and have
sold the same to the packers and have had to 'accept measure-
ment and weights made by the said packers; and
Whereas, The said farmers feel that they have been taken
advantage of by the said packers, and for the proper weighing
and measuring of said crop it is deemed necessary that State
scales be located at Centre Market, in Baltimore city, for this
purpose, and a weigher appointed to see that no advantage is
taken of the aforesaid farmers by the said packers; therefore,
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That two new sections be and the same is hereby added
to Article 97 of the Code of Public General Laws, title
"Weights and Measures," sub-title "Agricultural Products,"
to be designated as Sections 35 and 36, and to read as follows r
SEC. 35. Standard weights of tomatoes in the State of Mary-
land shall be 60 pounds to the bushel, and for the purpose of
ascertaining the true weight thereof it is hereby enacted that a
platform scale shall be purchased by the Board of Public
Works of Maryland and located at such place in Centre Mar-
ket Space, in Baltimore city, as shall be approved by the Mayor
of said city. An appropriation of one thousand dollars, or so
much thereof as may be necessary, is hereby appropriated
from any moneys in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated
to purchase, locate and establish a scale for the weighing of
tomatoes and other vegetables sold by weight in said Centre
Market Space, and immediately after the location the said
scales shall be purchased and put in place for the purpose of
this Act.
36. There shall be appointed by the Governor a weigher,
who shall be charged with the duty of weighing all tomatoes
and all other vegetables sold by weight brought to the said
Market for sale by the wagon load, who shall receive therefor
the sum of ten cents per wagon load for performing these
services, two cents of which shall be paid by him quarterly to>
