1170 LAWS OF MARYLAND.

charge of his duties each judge and clerk of election shall take
and subscribe before the Mayor the oath of office hereinafter pro-
vided for all officers under the corporation, and the said judges
and clerks shall have all the powers and be subject to all the
penalties provided by law for judges and clerks appointed for
State and county elections, and they shall receive for their
services the sum of two dollars ($2) each.

SEC. 63. The Council shall consist of five members and shall
hold office for two years, or until the qualifications of their suc-
cessors, and no one shall be eligible to election to the Council
who has not been a resident of, the town and a qualified voter
in one of the election precincts centering in the town of Easton
for at least two years next preceding his election, and a resi-
dent of the ward for which he is elected for at least one year
next preceding his election, and each Councilman shall receive
for his services the sum of fifty dollars ($50) per year.

SEC. 67. The Mayor, by virtue of his office, shall see that
the ordinances of the town are duly and faithfully executed;
by and with the advice and consent of the Council, he shall
appoint a town attorney, chief of police and town clerk, and
such other officers as the ordinances of the town may provide;
he shall annually, on the first Monday in April, report to the
Council in writing the general state of the town, with an accu-
rate account of money received and expended, which said re-
port shall be published in one or more newspapers of said town,
giving a full and particular statement of all receipts and dis-
bursements; he shall have power to remove any of the officers
appointed by him for neglect or violation of any duties per-
taining to their respective offices, and shall appoint others in
their stead, subject to confirmation by the Council, as in the
case of original appointments; he shall have general supervi-
sion of the town, and shall receive for his services an annual
salary of three hundred dollars; he shall by and with the
consent of the Council appoint three citizens of known in-
tegrity, experience and sound judgment, one of whom shall be
a physician, who together with the Mayor and town attorney,
shall constitute the board of health, and as such shall have all
the authority within the limits of said town that is now or
may be hereafter vested in the health officers of Talbot County,
or in inspectors of the State Board of Health, or that may be
vested in them by the charter and ordinances of said town.
The members of the said board shall hold office for two years
from the date of their respective appointments, and until the
qualifications of their successors, and shall receive such com-
pensation for their services as may be allowed by ordinance.

SEC 68. The Mayor, by and with the advice and consent of
