organized under the laws of this or any other State, and carry-
ing on business in this State, especially as to the financial con-
dition of such insurance companies and their liability to ful-
fill their obligations, in order that the insurance commissioner
may ascertain and determine whether or not they have com-
plied with the laws of this State.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That section 176 of said
Article 23 of the Annotated Code of Maryland, title "Corpora-
tions", sub-title "Insurance Department", be and the same
hereby is repealed.
SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from and after October 1, 1918.

CHAPTER 452.
AN ACT to authorize and direct the State Roads Commission
to construct and thereafter maintain as a part of the State
Road System, an improved highway from the conjunction
of State Road No. 1 with Johnson Avenue in the town of
Hyattsville, Maryland, to Rhode Island Avenue, extended,
at the District of Columbia and Maryland boundary.

CHAPTER 453.
AN ACT to declare the sanction and consent of the General
Assembly of Maryland to sundry gifts, bequests and devises
contained in the last Wills and Testaments of certain per-
sons deceased and also to certain gifts, grants, and sales,
leases, deeds and conveyances made by various persons and
bodies corporate to and for the support, use and benefit of
sundry and ministerial persons, religious corporations,
orders, sects or demoninations, and to certain educational
and charitable institutions hereinafter named.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the sanction and consent of the said General Assem-
bly of Maryland be and the same is hereby declared, given and
granted to the following gifts, bequests, devises, grants, sales,
leases, deeds and conveyances to and from certain persons and
