are hereby repealed. Nothing herein shall-affect Section 23
of said Article as enacted by the Act of 1916, Chapter 609,
which said section remains in force.

CHAPTER 281.

AN ACT to repeal Section 74 of Article 27 of Bagby's Anno-
tated Code of Public General Laws of Maryland, and to enact
in lieu thereof seven new sections to be known as Sections 74,
74A, 74B, 74C, 74D, 74E, 74F, to prevent and punish the
desecration, mutilation or improper use of the flag of the
United States of America, and of this State, and of any flag,
standard, color, ensign or shield authorized by law.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 74 of Article 27 of Bagby's Annotated Code
of Public General Laws of Maryland as contained in the supple-
mental volume legalized by the Act of 1914, Chapter 16, -be re-
pealed and the following seven sections enacted in lieu thereof:

UNIFORM FLAG LAW.

SEC. 74. (Definition.) The words flag, standard, color, ensign
or shield, as used in this act, shall include any flag, standard,
color, ensign or shield, or copy, picture or representation there-
of, made of any substance or represented or produced thereon,
and of any size, evidently purporting to be such flag, standard,
color, ensign or shield of the United States or of this state, or
a copy, picture or representation thereof.

SEC. 74A. (Desecration.) No person shall, in any manner,
for exhibition or display:

(a) Place or cause to be placed any word, figure, mark, pic-
ture, design, drawing or advertisement of any nature upon any
flag, standard, color, ensign or shield of the United States or of
this state, or authorized by any law of the United States or of
this state: or

(b) Expose to public view any such flag, standard, color,
ensign or shield, upon which shall have been printed, painted or
otherwise produced, or to which shall have been attached, ap-
pended, affixed or annexed any such word, figure, mark, pic-
ture, design, drawing or advertisement; or
