370 LAWS OF MARYLAND. [CH. 189

Company of New York City certain fire hose and other equip-
ment at prices named in a certain bid, and did receive and use
said hose and other equipment, but the said Mayor and City
Council was restrained from paying for said hose and other
equipment for the reason of not complying strictly with the
law relative to advertising for bids, as required by the Charter
of said City of Cumberland, Maryland; and,

WHEREAS the said Mayor and City Council of Cumberland
have had the use of the said hose and other equipment and the
said Fabric Fire Hose Company of New York City has been
deprived of the price of same, without any fault on its part;
therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Mayor and City Council of Cumberland, a mu-
nicipal corporation, be and it is hereby empowered to pay to
the Fabric Fire Hose Company of New York City the sum
of one thousand, one hundred and thirty-four dollars ($1,-
134.00) and the further sum of two hundred and thirty-eight
dollars and fourteen cents ($238.14) accrued interest for fire
hose and other equipment purchased from the said Fabric Fire
Hose Company of New York City.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect on and after June 1st, 1918.

CHAPTER 189.

AN ACT to create a special taxing area or district and to be
known as Section 5 of the Village of Chevy Chase, Mont-
gomery County, Maryland, for the incorporation, election and
succession of a Citizens' Committee, who shall appoint a secre-
tary-treasurer and other necessary officers; also directing the
Board of County Commissioners of Montgomery County, Mary-
land, to pay over to the secretary-treasurer of said Citizens'
Committee for disbursement for improving, maintaining, and
repairing county roads, streets and lanes, the money collected
