be and the same is hereby repealed and re-enacted with amend-
ments to read as follows:
239. And be it enacted, That the Treasurer shall appoint a
deputy, who shall perform such duties as the said Treasurer
may require, and for whose official conduct said Treasurer shall
be responsible, and who shall act in his stead and place in his
absence, and said deputy shall be paid by Somerset County
an annual salary, the amount of which is to be determined by
the County Commissioners of said County, provided, it shall
in no event be more than one thousand dollars.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1918.

CHAPTER 163.
AN ACT to repeal and to re-enact Section 58 of the Charter of
Crisfield, as enacted by the Act of 1916, Chapter 458 as Sec-
tion 58 of said Act, and to amend and to re-enact the same
Section, relating to municipal registration and elections in
said City; also to add a new Section to said Charter and Act
to be numbered 58-1/2 relating to ballots and municipal
elections.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 58 of the Charter of Crisfield as enacted by
the Act of 1916, Chapter 458 as Section 58 of said Act, be and
the same is hereby repealed and that the said section relating to
municipal registration and elections is hereby amended and re-
enacted as Section 58 of said Charter, as follows, and that a new
section to be numbered 58-1/2 be and the same is hereby added to
said Charter, relating to municipal elections in said City, to
read as follows:
SEC. 58. The male citizens of said City, of twenty-one years
of age or over, who have resided in said City, one year pre-
ceding any election, having the qualifications entitling them to
vote at any State or County election therein, and all male citi-
zens of like age of Somerset County, entitled to vote in any elec-
tion district or precinct therein, outside of the City of Crisfield,
and owning any freehold or leasehold property, for ninety-nine
(99) years, renewable, within the limits of said City, for two
