bending, securing, maintaining and transmitting such fugitive
to the State making such demand, shall be paid by such State.
Any agent so appointed who receives the fugitive into his cus-
tody shall be empowered to transmit him to the State from which
he has fled. The executive authority of this State is hereby
vested with the power on the application of any person inter-
ested, to demand the return to this State of any fugitive within
the purview of this Act.
SEC. 25. (Limitation. ) Any proceedings under this Act shall
be begun within one year after the flight referred to in this Act.
SEC. 26. (Interpretation. ) This Act shall be so interpreted
and construed as to effectuate its general purpose to make
uniform the law of those States which enact it.

CHAPTER 151.
AN ACT to repeal Section 35 of Article 54 of the Code of
Public General Laws of Maryland, title "Land Office, " sub-
title ''Commissioner of the Land Office; His Powers and
Duties, " and to re-enact the same with amendments.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 35 of Article 54 of the Code of Public Gen-
eral Laws of Maryland, title "Land Office, " sub-title "Commis-
sioner of the Land Office; His Powers and Duties, '' be and the
same is hereby repealed and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
35. Every person who has obtained a warrant to survey
vacant or escheat land shall within one year from the date of
such warrant pay for the vacant land included in the certificate
of survey not less than fifty cents per acre, or such sum per
acre as shall be assessed by the Commissioner of the Land Office
based upon, but not exceeding, the value of similar land as as-
sessed by the county or city authorities for land in the vicinity
of such vacant land, and shall in addition pay the value of any
improvements there may be on such vacant land, but there shall
be deducted from the purchase money aforesaid the sum which
the party paid as caution upon obtaining the warrant, and for
land which has escheated two-thirds of the real value of the
same and the real value of the improvements thereon; if any
person shall fail to pay within one year, as required by this
