Act is hereby repealed. And the said "The President and
Commissioners of Chesapeake City" are hereby fully author-
ized to pass all necessary ordinances and to make appointments
for the purposes of holding said election and ascertaining the
true result.

SECTION 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is an
emergency law, necessary for the immediate preservation of
the public health and safety, and the same shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

Approved April 10th, 1918.

CHAPTER 65.

AN ACT to repeal section ninety-four of Article 8 of the Code
of Public Local Laws of the State of Maryland, title "Cecil
County, " sub-title "Chesapeake City, " relating to bailiffs,
and to enact a new section in lieu thereof.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That section 94 of Article 8 of the Code of Public
Local Laws of the State of Maryland, title "Cecil County, " sub-
title "Chesapeake City, " relating to bailiffs, be and the same
hereby is repealed, and that the following new section be en-
acted in lieu thereof, to be designated as said Section 94.

SECTION 94. The President and Commissioners may from
time to time under such circumstances and conditions as they
may by their ordinances direct, appoint such officers as they may
deem necessary to carry into effect their ordinances; and as soon
as practicable after their election and qualification shall annu-
ally appoint a town bailiff who shall continue in office until his
successor has been appointed and has qualified, but shall be sub-
ject to removal by said Board for neglect of duty, disobedience
of its orders or malfeasance in office, and shall have within said
town all the authority of a constable in making arrests and serv-
ing warrants, who shall preserve order in the said town, super-
intend all work being done for or by the town corporation
within its limits, obey and perform all orders and ordinances
of said Board and perform such other duties as said Board may
prescribe, and as the entire compensation for all the services
which he shall render under this Act and sub-title and the ordi-
nances and orders of said Board, he shall receive annually a
sum not exceeding Eight Hundred Dollars per annum.
