and into the District of Columbia; all to the end that said
canal, and its right of way, may be fully utilized.
Resolved, further, That the Secretary of the Senate is di-
rected to send a copy of this resolution, properly certified, to
the two United States Senators from the State of Maryland,
and the Chief Clerk of the House is ordered to forward a copy
of this resolution, properly certified, to each of the six mem-
bers of Congress in the House of Representatives from the
State of Maryland.

NO. 8.
JOINT RESOLUTION providing for the appointment of a
joint Committee by the Senate and House of Delegates of
Maryland to confer with a like Committee to be appointed
by the General Assembly of West Virginia, as to the feasi-
bility, method and cost of acquiring or taking over any
bridge or bridges connecting the said two States.
WHEREAS, There are several toll bridges crossing the Poto-
mac River and connecting the States of Maryland and West
Virginia; and
WHEREAS, Two of the said bridges connect Washington
County, Maryland, with Jefferson County, West Virginia;
and
WHEREAS, Two of the said bridges connect Washington
County, Maryland, with Berkley County, West Virginia; and
WHEREAS, The good roads system of Maryland now connects
with one of said four bridges, and is about to connect with
another; and
WHEREAS, The said good roads system of Maryland will
probably be connected with all four of said bridges before the
next regular session of the General Assembly of Maryland con-
venes; and
WHEREAS, All of said bridges are important links in the sys-
tem of highways, and the only possible means for ordinary
travel between the aforesaid Counties and States; and
