1004 LAWS OF MARYLAND. [CH. 495

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by tlie General Assembly of
Maryland, That Sections 5, 13 and 15 of Article 100 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland, title "Work, Hours of, in Fac-
tories," sub-title "Employment of Minors," as the same were
repealed and re-enacted by Chapter 222 of the Acts of the
General Assembly of Maryland for 1916, and as sub-division
(3) (c) of Section 13 was further repealed and re-enacted by
Chapter 701 of the Acts of the General Assembly of 1916, be
repealed and re-enacted with amendments so as to read as fol-
lows:

5. No child under fourteen years of age shall be employed,
permitted or suffered to work in, about or in connection with
any canning or packing establishment

13. The person authorized to issue a general employment
certificate shall not issue such certificate until he has received,
examined, approved and made a record of the following papers,
duly executed, viz:

(1) The school record of such child properly filled out and
signed, as provided in this Act, which school record shall be
furnished without charge to any child applying therefor by
the superintendent or teacher in charge of the school or schools
attended by said child.

(2) A certificate signed by a physician appointed by the
officer authorized to issue such permit stating that such child
has been examined by him and, in his opinion, has reached the
normal physical development of a child of its age, and is in
sufficiently sound health and physically able to be employed in
the occupation or process for which a permit is applied for.

(3) Evidence of age showing that the child is fourteen years
old or upwards, which shall consist of one of the following
proofs of age and shall be required in the order herein desig-
nated, as follows:

(a) A duly attested transcript of the birth certificate filed
according to law with a register of vital statistics, or other
officer charged with the duty of recording births, which cer-
tificate shall be prima facie evidence of the age of such child.

(b) A passport or a duly attested transcript of a certificate
of baptism showing the date of birth and place of baptism of
such child.

(c) A bona fide contemporary record of the date and place
of the child's birth kept in the Bible in which the records of
the births in the family of the child are preserved, a passport
