worth in real estate double the amount of the penalty of such
bond. And that in no event shall any person sell such article
on the Sabbath day, commonly called Sunday; and for viola-
tions of this provision, such person, natural or artificial, shall
be subjected to the penalties provided for in section 4 of this
Act; "provided that the exception made by the last clause of
chapter 554 of the Acts of 1904 shall still remain in full force
and virtue in law."

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 639.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments section 6 of
chapter 71, passed at the present session of the General

Assembly of the State of Maryland for the year 1908.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That section 6 of chapter 71 of the Acts 1908 be and the
same is hereby repealed and re-enacted with amendments so
as to read as follows:

SEC. 6. No spirituous or fermented liquors or alcoholic
bitters shall be sold in any election district of said county
except as provided for by section 5 of this Act, and also upon
the following terms, viz: Each and every applicant, person or
persons, house, corporations, company or association shall be
recommended to said clerk by at least seven respectable free-
holders, assessed for at least two thousand dollars, living in the
election district in which said saloon is located and within
two miles of the place where said liquors or alcoholic bitters
are to be sold, as a fit person to traffic in the article, nor until
such applicant or applicants applying for such license shall
file with said clerk a bond with at least two sureties to be
approved by said clerk in the penal sum of two thousand dol-
lars, conditional to the payment of all fines, penalties, costs
and damages to which the person or persons obtaining said
license may become liable for any violation of any of the
license laws of this State. And said clerk is hereby prohibited
from approving any bond under this section unless it shall
appear to him by good evidence that the sureties on said bond
are worth in real estate double the amount of the penalty of
such bond, and that in no event shall any person sell such
article on the Sabbath day, commonly called Sunday, and for
violation of this provision such person, natural or artificial,
