ACT. 27. ] CRIMES AND PUNISHMENTS. 77

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 45 of Article 26 of the Code of Public Gen-
eral Laws of Maryland, title "Courts, " sub-title "Salaries of
Judges, " be and the same is hereby repealed and re-enacted
with amendments, so as to read as follows:

45. The salary of each chief judge of the first seven judicial
circuits and of the judge of the Court of Appeals from Balti-
more city shall be five thousand eight hundred dollars, and of
the several judges of the Supreme Bench of Baltimore city
shall be four thousand and five hundred dollars, and of each
associate judge of the first seven judicial circuits shall be
three thousand six hundred dollars per annum, payable quar-
terly.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this "Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

Approved April 1, 1908.

ARTICLE XXVII.

CRIMES AND PUNISHMENTS.

CHAPTER 366.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section 17
of Article 27 of the Code of Public General Laws, title
"Crimes and Punishments, " sub-title "Assault with Intent
to Murder, Ravish and Rob, " as enacted by Chapter 76 of the
Acts of 1904.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 27 of the Code of Public General Laws, title
"Crimes and Punishments, " sub-title "Assault with Intent to
Murder, Ravish and Rob, " as enacted by Chapter 76 of the Acts
1904, be and the same is hereby repealed and re-enacted with
amendments, so as to read as follows:

SEC. 17. Every person convicted of crime of an assault with
intent to rob, murder, or have carnal knowledge of a female
child under age of fourteen. years, shall be sentenced to con-
finement in the penitentiary for not less than two years, nor
more than ten years; and every person convicted of the crime
of an assault with intent to commit a rape shall be punished
with death, or, in the discretion of the court, he shall be sen-
tenced to confinement in the penitentiary for not less than
two years nor more than twenty years; and that nothing in
this Act shall be construed to interfere with any prosecution
