520 LAWS OF MARYLAND.

418. In order to prevent sand, clay or gravel from wasting
upon any county roads of the Thirteenth Election District of
Baltimore county, all carts and wagons hauling clay, sand or
gravel shall have tight bottoms, fronts, side boards and tail
boards, and that there shall always be a clear space of at least
one inch between the top of the sand, clay or gravel, as
the case may be, and the top of the front board, side board and
tail board of all such carts and wagons hauling sand, clay or
gravel, and in no event shall the tail board be lower than the
side board.

419. Each and every violation of any provision of either of the
next two preceding sections shall be a misdemeanor punishable
by a fine of ten dollars and costs, to be imposed upon the
offender by any justice of the peace of the State of Maryland,
in and for Baltimore county, to be collected as other fines
are collected, one-half of said fines to go to the informer, and
the balance thereof to the Highways Commission of Balti-
more county, to be applied by them to the repair of the county
roads of said district.

420. It shall not be lawful for any person to allow his
stock of any kind, including horses, mules, horned cattle and
swine, or geese, to go at large unattended in Towson, nor
within a circuit of one mile and a half around said village,
taking the corner of Chesapeake avenue and the Baltimore and
Yorktown turnpike, as the central point.

421. Any person who may find any horse, mule, horned
cattle, swine or geese going at large and unattended by a
keeper, within the limits prescribed in the preceding section,
may impound the same, or report the fact to some constable
or deputy sheriff, who stall impound same, under the penalty
of two dollars for each head of stock or lot of geese he may
neglect to impound, upon information given to him; and the
constable or other person impounding any stock or geese shall,
within twenty-four hours after impounding, post up in at
least three public places within the limits above prescribed, a
written or printed description of the stock, swine or geese
impounded, which written description shall contain a notice
that if the owner of the same does not claim them within five
days from the date of posting such notice, the stock or geese
impounded will be sold to pay costs of impounding and dam-
ages.

422. If the owner of any stock or geese impounded shall
claim the same before a sale thereof, such owner shall pay to
the person impounding one dollar for each horse, mule, hog,
or head of cattle, and each lot of geese containing two or
