trial, he shall have been found guilty of such charges; and
they shall each give bond to the Highways Commission, prop-
erly conditioned for the faithful performance of their duties,
in the penal sum of from one thousand to three thousand dol-
lars as the Commission may prescribe by its orders or regula-
tions, which bond may be put in suit at the instance of the
Highways Commission for any breach of duty on the part of
the road supervisor, whereby said Commission may suffer
loss, or any diversion or misappropriation of road funds com-
mitted to them for expenditure or disbursement. It shall be
the duty of the road supervisor so appointed for each election
district to take direct care and charge on behalf of the High-
ways Commission of all roads and bridges in his district, and
shall see that no obstructions, hindrances or injury is per-
mitted upon any road or bridge under his supervision, and
when any road or bridge shall form the boundary between
districts, the Highways Commission shall assign to the super-
visor for each district the portion of such road or bridge
over which he shall have supervision, as aforesaid. Said super-
visors shall frequently inspect all roads and bridges in their
respective districts, and shall promptly report to the High-
ways Commission any defect therein, or the need for repairs
and improvements thereto. They shall keep all roads and
bridges in their respective districts in general good repair, and
to this end employ such labor and make such expenditures
from time to time as the Highways Commission may allow
them for such purposes in pursuance of the general system
adopted for such districts; in addition to such regular expen-
ditures they may, in cases of emergency, make repairs to any
road or bridge in their respective districts, at an expenditure not
exceeding fifty dollars in amount, without receiving in advance
special authority from the Highways Commission therefor, but
except in the case of such allowance for general repairs as afore-
said, and in the case of expenditures in emergencies as afore-
said, they shall make no expenditures except on the express
authority of the Highways Commission or Roads Engineer,
acting on its behalf first had and obtained. Said road super-
visors shall personally superintend and supervise all work
done on the county roads and bridges in their respective dis-
tricts, including the construction of new roads and all work
done under contract by the Highways Commission, except in
cases where the Commission shall otherwise provide, and shall
have power to discharge employes for neglect of duty, whether
the same were employed by them or the Highways Commis-
sion direct. They shall, when so required, perform all work in
their respective districts in accordance with the plans, speci-
fications, suggestions or directions imposed by the Highways
