334. All office expenses, cost of books, necessary filing de-
vices and stationery, shall be paid out of the general road
and bridge fund, placed to the credit of the Commission, as
hereinafter provided.
335. It shall the duties of the members of said Highways
Commission, from time to time, to travel over and personally
inspect the public highways and bridges throughout the county
and the work being done on the same, in order that they may
have, so far as possible, personal knowledge of the require-
ments of the county in regard to road matters.
336. Each of the County Commissioners of Baltimore
County shall be entitled to receive the sum of six hundred dol-
lars per annum, and no more, as compensation for the extra
duties imposed upon them under this sub-title, said sums to
be paid said Commissioners in addition to their regular
salaries as County Commissioners, and to be paid out of the
general road fund of the county.
337. The said Highways Commission of Baltimore County
shall have general charge of and control over all the public
highways, roads, bridges, streets and alleys of the county,
and it shall be the duty of said Commission to keep the same
in proper condition of repair, and reasonably safe for public
travel, and to that end to exercise a general supervision over
the same throughout the county, and direct repairs and im-
provements thereto whenever it shall deem the same necessary
or advisable for the public convenience or safety. Said Com-
mission shall have all the powers with respect to the public
highways of the county heretofore vested in the County Com-
missioners or other officers charged with the proper main-
tenance of said highways, and in addition thereto shall have
all the powers hereinafter enumerated, and all such other and
further powers as may be reasonably implied from the nature
of the duties imposed upon it by this sub-title, to the end that
said Commission may properly and efficiently discharge said
duties.
338. For any negligence or breach of the duties imposed by
this sub-title, said Commission shall be liable in damages at
the suit of the person or persons injured thereby, but it shall
be subject to no other or greater liability in the premises than
was the Board of County Commissioners of Baltimore County
in matters relating to the roads and bridges of the county
before the passage of the Act of the General Assembly of
Maryland known as chapter 685 of the Acts passed at the
January session, 1900; and any final decree or judgment
obtained against said Highways Commission, in any such
