water of which may be used for cooking or drinking purposes,
in any town or village, in Baltimore county having more than
five hundred inhabitants, under a penalty of not less than ten
dollars; and the sanitary officers shall immediately remove the
same.
184. All fines and penalties that may be imposed under the
provisions of the foregoing sections of this sub-title shall be col-
lected by suit before a justice of the peace of Baltimore county
in the manner prescribed by 175.
185. No person shall haul, cart, carry, drag or deposit any
dead carcass or other carrion in Baltimore county, within one
mile of the city of Baltimore, unless he shall bury, or cause the
same to be buried at least two feet under ground, and so as
effectually to prevent any offensive smell therefrom, under the
penalty of twenty dollars for each offense, together with the
expense of burying or removing the same.
186. Any person who shall remove or bury any dead carcass
or offensive carrion, thrown out and deposited contrary to the
provisions of the preceding section, shall recover, before any
justice of the peace, against the person guilty of such offense,
all expenses thereby incurred in burying and removing same.
187. Any person occupying any real property or chattels
real in Baltimore county, either as tenant or owner -thereof, or
any person owning unoccupied real estate or chattels in said
county, who shall knowingly allow any dead carcass of any
domestic animals to be exposed upon said premises without
burial for a longer period than twenty-four hours, shall, upon
presentment and conviction thereof, be deemed guilty of a mis-
demeanor, and shall be liable to a fine of twenty dollars or im-
prisonment for not less than ten days for each offense, in the
discretion of the court.
188. The County Commissioners of Baltimore County shall,
on or before the first Wednesday in December, in the year nine-
teen hundred and three, and on or before such date every two
years thereafter, appoint a fit person as warden of the jail of
Baltimore county, who shall take charge of the prison and pris-
oners therein and have and exercise, during his continuance in
office, the same powers, and be subject to the same penalties and
forfeitures and be responsible for the escapes in the same man-
ner and to the same extent as the present sheriff of said county
and the sheriff of the several counties now are, and shall per-
form such other duties as shall be required of him by said
County Commissioners.
