SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 601.

AN ACT to add two new sections t6 article 22 of the Public
Local Laws of the State of Maryland, title "Washington
County," sub-title "Williamsport," to be known as sections
411c and 411D, to follow section 411B of said article, as re-
pealed and re-enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland
of 1904, chapter 17, and approved February 25, 1904, and as
amended by chapter 334 of the Acts of the General Assembly
of Maryland passed at its session of 1904, and to give addi-
tional power to the Burgess and Commissioners of Williams-
port relating to the streets, alleys and public places of said
town.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That article 22 of the Public Local Laws of the State of
Maryland, title "Washington County," sub-title "Williams-
port," be and the same is hereby amended by adding thereto
sections 411c and 411D, to follow section 411e of the Acts of
the General Assembly of Maryland, chapter 17, approved Feb-
ruary 25, 1904, being An Act repealing and re-enacting the
charter of Williamsport, and as amended by chapter 334 of
the Acts of the General Assembly of Maryland passed at its
session in 1904.

411c. The Burgess and Commissioners of Williamsport are
hereby authorized and empowered to contract with any person,
persons or corporation for the lighting of the streets, alleys
and public places of said town by the use of artificial gas, and
to provide for the payment of such lighting.

411D. The Burgess and Commissioners of Williamsport are
hereby authorized to grant a franchise or franchises to any
person, persons or corporations allowing them or either of
them the use of the streets and highways and public places of
said town for the purpose of laying mains and service pipes
for artificial gas, to be used for heating and lighting pur-
poses through the streets, alleys and public places of said
town, and of connecting the same by service pipes to residences
and places of business where the same may be used, and to
prescribe the terms and conditions upon which said streets,
alleys and public places may be used for the purpose herein
set forth, and also to name in the franchise so granted the
