LAWS OF MARYLAND.

land situate in Worcester county, in said State, called "Port-
land," containing tive hundred and four acres and one rood of
land, for which there was paid into the treasury of Maryland
the net sum of one hundred and eighty-seven dollars ; and
WHEREAS, By a patent issued on the second day of July, in

the year eighteen and ninety-one, the said State granted unto
Benjamin F. Vosberg and Charles P. Tucker, a tract of land
situated in Worcester county, called "Brenham," containing
two hundred and sixty-five acres and two roods of land, for
which there was paid into the treasury of Maryland the net
sum of ninety-nine dollars and thirty-eight cents ; and
WHEREAS, By a patent issued on the sixteenth day of
December in the year eighteen hundred and ninety-one, the

State granted unto A. J. Corning, a tract of land situate in
Worcester county, called "Defiance," containing three thousand
and nine hundred and twenty acres, for which there was paid
into the treasury of Maryland the net sum of one thousand
four hundred and sixty-eight dollars and thirteen cents ; and
WHEREAS, It now appears that by an error of the surveyor of
Worcester county in running the lines of the tract called
"Defiance" all of the lands described in the patents for "Port-

land" and "Brenham" were included therein, and being older
tracts than "Defiance" the State could not grant to said A. J.
Corning a title thereto, by means thereof the said A. J. Corn-
ing has erroneously paid into the treasury of Maryland the
sum of two hundred and eighty six dollars and thirty eight
cents as the purchase money lor lands for which the State had
no right to grant ; and
WHEREAS, The said A. J. Corning was the agent of the

"Ocean Beach Land and Improvement Company of Baltimore
City," by which said sum of money was in fact paid, and the
legal title to said tract called "Defiance" has since become
vested in said company ; therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Comptroller of the Treasury be and he is here-

by authorized and directed to draw his warrant on the treas-
urer for the payment of the said sum of two hundred and
eighty-six dollars and thirty-eight cents to the said "Ocean
Beach Land and Improvement Company of Baltimore City,"
being the amount erroneously paid into the treasury on account
of the composition or purchase money for said tract of land
called "Defiance."

Effective.

SEC. 2 And be it enacted. That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.
