shall appoint as a member of the faculty of the State Normal
School a gentleman fully qualified, whose chief duty shall be
to hold a Teachers' Institute in each county of the State for
five days in each year, and who shall be paid such salary as
the State Board of Education may determine. The said mem-
ber of the faculty shall carry out the directions of the said
board, and be amendable to the board. He shall be, when
first appointed, not more than fifty years of age.
SEC. 76. The annual sum of twenty thousand dollars is
hereby appropriated for the support of the State Normal

School, to be paid in quarterly instalments by the Treasurer, .
on the warrant of the Comptroller, to the State Board of
Education, and to be applied to the payment of teachers' sala-
ries and the purchase of educational apparatus; for the salary
of the principal of the Normal School, his traveling expenses
in attending meetings of the Teachers' Institute and superin-
tending the schools throughout the State, and for such assist-
ance as may be required in the State Normal School during
his absence on duty ; and for text books, fuel, stationery, light
and other incidental expenses of the school.

Appropria-
tion.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That all Acts and parts of Acts ,
inconsistent with the provisions of this Act, be and the same'
are hereby repealed.

Repeal.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

and three, sub-title " County Commissioners ; " Sections one
hundred and sixteen, one hundred and sixteen A, B, C, D, E, F, G,
and one hundred and seventeen, sub title "County Treasurer,"
as amended by Chapter one hundred and thirty-seven of the
Acts of the General Assembly of Maryland of the year
eighteen hundred and ninety; Sections one hundred and five
to one hundred and seventeen, both inclusive, sub-title
"County Treasurer," and to re-enact the same with amend-
