their extension and improvement, the Mayor and City Council
of Cumberland shall, as soon as may be practicable, provide by
ordinance for the creation of a Board of Water Commissioners,
to be composed of three citizens of said city, one of whom
shall be of opposite politics, each and every one thereof to be
the bona fide owner, in his own right, of property to the amount
in value of one thousand dollars, and assessed for the same on
the books of the said city at the time of his appointment, and
for the year next prior thereto, the taxes on which shall not
be in arrears, to be appointed by said Mayor and City Council,
and the Mayor of the city shall in addition thereto be a mem-
ber and chairman of said board ; said board shall serve for a
term of years to be regulated in said ordinance, and shall have
full control and charge of the present water works and system
of the city, and of any and all alterations in the same, and of
any new system which may be created, and shall have the
supervision of any new system which shall or may hereafter
be constructed, and the Mayor and City Council shall further
provide by ordinances for the remuneration of said Board of
Water Commissioners and their duties.

Repeal.
Effective.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That all Acts or parts of Acts
inconsistent herewith be and they are hereby repealed.
SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 159.
AN ACT to repeal Sections 258 and 267 of Article 8 of Code
of Public Local Laws, title "Cecil County," sub title "Port
Deposit," and to re-enact the samo with amendments.

Repeal.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That sections 258 and 267 of Article 8 of the Code of
Public Local Laws, title "Cecil County," sub-title "Port De-
posit," be and the same are hereby repealed and re-enacted so
as to read as follows :
253. They shall have power to levy and collect taxes in the
town, not exceeding in any one year fifty cents on the one hun-
