office during the term of two years, unless sooner removed by
the Mayor; and the said collector in collecting the said taxes
shall have full power to distrain for the same in the same
manner that the collectors of State and county taxes now do.

SEC. 13. And be it enacted, That whenever they think it
necessary, from time to time, they may make a new assessment
of the real and personal property within the town limits ; and
they shall have power to alter and amend the said assessment
whenever they may think justice requires it.

SEC. 14. And be it enacted, That the treasurer of the cor-
poration, who may be one of the members of the City Council,
shall hold his office for two years, unless sooner removed by
the Mayor. He shall keep an accurate account of the receipts
and disbursements of the funds of the corporation in a well
bound book, and shall render annually to the Mayor and City
Council a succinct and detailed statement thereof, which state-
ment shall be posted in some public place in said town annu-
ally ; but before the said treasurer shall act as such he shall give
bond to the State of Maryland in such penalty as the Mayor
and City Council may prescribe, with sureties to be approved
by them, conditioned that he will well and faithfully account
for all moneys received by him from the collector of said cor-
poration, or any other person, for the use of said town, and
will also well and faithfully pay over to the said Mayor and
City Council of Ocean City, or their order, all sums of money
so received by him, and deliver over the books and papers of
his office whenever required so to do by them ; and the said
bond shall be recorded in the office of the clerk of the Circuit
Court for said county ; and they shall allow the treasurer such
compensation for his services as they may deem reasonable and
just.
SEC. 15. And be it enacted, That the Mayor and City Council

to give effect and operation to the powers vested in them, and
likewise the authority to provide for the appointment and com-
pensation of all such officers as they may deem necessary for
the protection and good government of said city ; and in case
of any vacancy for any reason in any appointive office, said
vacancy may be filled for the unexpired term by the same
authority and in the same manner as the original occupant of
said office was appointed.

SEC. 16. And be it enacted, That all ordinances or other
measures heretofore ordained and passed by the Mayor and
City Council of Ocean City, or by the City Council alone, and
