usage at the rate of fif ty dollars per month; that
the books of said office all show that the said
William Murdock was not paid as such assistant
keeper of the furnaces, for the months of Bep-

tember, October, eighteen hundred and eighty-
two, June, July, August, Beptember, October,
eighteen hundred and eighty -three, May, June,
July and August, eighteen hundred and eighty-
five, being eleven months ; but that his pay for
said eleven months, being five hundred and fifty
dollars at the aforesaid rate of six hundred dol-
lars per annum, was retained in the treasury by
direction of the governor of the state, all of
which facts are evidenced by the certificate of
the comptroller of the state ; and whereas said
compensation was by the terms of said appro-
priation bills an annual compensation, and
should have been paid said Murdock, although
the furnaces for the months named were not in
operation and whereas said William Murdock
hath since departed this life, leaving the said
Elizabeth C. Murdock, his widow, surviving him,
who has been appointed administratrix of the
said William Murdock by the orphans' court
for Anne Arundel county.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-

bly of Maryland, That the comptroller of the
state be and he is hereby authorized and
directed to draw his warrant on the treasurer of
the state, in favor of the said Elizabeth C. Mur-
dock, administratrix of the said William Mur-
dock, deceased, for the sum of five hundred and
fifty dollars, and the treasurer is hereby directed
to pay the same out of any money in the treas-
ury not otherwise appropriated.
