SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That of the sum re-
ceived from the sale of each lot in said cemetery,
forty dollars shall be retained by said corpora-
tion, and invested as a permanent maintenance
fund ; the income therefrom to be used in main-
taining said cemetery, and the care of the lots
therein.

Chapter 223.
AN ACT to provide compensation to the sheriff
of Frederick county, for keeping prisoners in
the jail of said county, and cooking and serv-
ing victuals to the same.
WHEREAS, by the act of the general assembly,
passed at the January session of eighteen hun-

dred and eighty-four, chapter two hundred and
forty-two, it is made the duty of the commis-
sioners of charities and corrections of Frederick
county, "to furnish to the sheriff of said county
all supplies and provisions necessary for the
support and maintenance of all persons com-
mitted to the jail of said county ; and,
WHEREAS the said sheriff is responsible for the
safe-keeping of such persons committed to said

jail, and is required to cook and serve to said
prisoners the supplies and provisions so furnished
by the said "Commissioners of Charities and
Corrections," but there is now no express pro-
visions of law providing compensation to said
sheriff for the keeping of prisoners in jail, and
cooking for and serving them with victuals, and
it is but just that he should be fairly compen-
sated therefor ; therefore,
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the county commissioners
of Frederick county are hereby authorized and
directed to levy for ami pay to the said sheriff
