streets, lanes antf alleys thereof in said town,
and impose a tax on any lot or lots abutting on
any street, lane or alley, for the purpose of
grading, regulating, paving and repairing the
footways or sidewalks in front thereof, or proved
and be and the same graded, paved or repaired,
and the same shall be a lien on the abutting
property, and be collected by suit and execution,
as debts are now collected by law, agreeably to
the ordinance to be passed by them.
SEC. 19. And be it enacted, That the commis-

AN ACT to authorize the county commission-
ers of Frederick county to subscribe to the
capital stock of turnpike companies in said
county.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General As-

sembly of Maryland, That whenever two-fifths
of the capital stock of any turnpike company
in Frederick county, chartered and organized
from and after the date of this act, shall have
been subscribed for, and taken by responsible
bona fide stockholders, the county commission-
ers of said county are hereby authorized and
empowered to subscribe for such portion of the
remaining three-fifths of the said capital stock
as they, in their discretion, may deem proper, in
the name and for the benefit of said county, and
